ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Assist Council with determining and communicating its vision and ensure the daily decisions of the planning are consistent with that vision.
Provide constituency outreach and strategic planning. Monitors current issues that may have impact on the constituency.
Perform research and analysis for the Council with respect to legislative policy matters and programs as they relate to constituency inquiries and concerns, as well as legislative policy matters and programs implemented within other municipalities.
Ensure that constituent related concerns, problems, and inquiries are resolved either personally or through delegation to another member of the Council's staff or to appropriate City staff.
Ensure that concerns, problems, and or inquiries are addressed and records are maintained. Follows up on requests/inquiries made by the Council to City staff.
Serve as liaison between the Council, the Mayor, and city staff with respect to initiatives, services, programs and issues affecting the Council and their constituents.
Coordinate and oversee the preparation, printing, and distributing of constituency newsletters for each council district.
Prepare or assist in preparation of speeches or other communications for Council, news releases, and setting up press conferences.
Maintain awareness of community and city-wide matters, and other matters affecting the Council and their constituents.
Maintain knowledge of the City of Shreveport's operations, and all state statutes, city ordinances, and other regulations pertaining to the City.
Serve as a resource to the Council on local, state, and federal related endeavors and monitors the federal, state, and local legislative process.
Monitor and report to the City Council on the implementation and results of the City's Legislative agenda at the state, federal and local levels of government.
Special assignments and other duties as requested by the Council.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Ability to perform assigned tasks.
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in Political Science, Public Administration, Social Work, Sociology, Marketing, Communications, or related field.
Strong writing and analytical skills, including the ability to understand and efficiently summarize the main points from public policy discussions.
At least two years of experience working with the public.
Excellent communication and customer service skills.
Ability to clearly and effectively convey information and address concerns.
Must provide a writing sample.
PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS:
Master Degree or equivalent In Political Science, Public Administration, Social Work, Sociology, Marketing, Communications, or related field, or a Juris Doctorate.
At least two years of experience in municipal government, and a strong understanding of municipal legislative processes and ordinances.
