On Mon. Feb. 27 the Shreveport City Council is slated to interview the six candidates for the newly created Director of Council Affairs position at its work session.
The next day on Tues. the council is to select the Director at its regular meeting.
Council Alan Jackson should NOT question nor vote for two of these applicants: RJ Johnson and Shanerika Flemings.
Jackson purchased campaign signs from RJ Johnson last year.
RJ Johnson is the chairman of the Caddo Democratic Executive Committee (DCEC) that endorsed Jackson in the 2022 council race.
Seemingly Jackson should recognize this conflict of interest.
Jackson should NOT lobby for RJ, question RJ, and/or vote for RJ. If he does it will be an ethics violation reportable to the Louisiana Ethics Commission.
Fleming made a campaign contribution to Jackson in last year's campaign.
Thus, Jackson should NOT lobby for Fleming, question Fleming, and/or vote for Fleming. If he does it will be an ethics violation reportable to the Louisiana Ethics Commission.
Seemingly Jackson should recognize this conflict of interest.
Last year Jackson had several ethical issues in his campaign. One was listing in an email/campaign post his address as the council office.
Jackson also posted campaign signs that exceeded the maximum size set by city ordinance.
Other conflicts of interest by council members and the candidates may be discovered.
Council members James Green and Tabatha Taylor were close political allies of former Mayor Adrian Perkins.
In many instances Taylor caried the water for Perkins in his agenda with the council. Both Green and Taylor along with Jackson endorsed Perkins for re-election.
Fleming was Perkins Chief Advisor and right-hand woman.
Whether or not Green and Taylor have conflicts in lobby for, questioning, and/or voting for Fleming is factually unknown although likely in reality.
