I was very disappointed to learn that my favorite Brookshire's pharmacy at the Uptown Brookshire's grocery store on Line Avenue will become a Walgreens.
If I wanted to get my prescriptions at Walgreens versus Brookshires, I have many choices, including the one on Kings Highway and Line and the one at Pierremont and Line.
I like getting my prescriptions where I shop for groceries, and, in fact, many times I only go to the pharmacy. But invariably, I buy something else, which, of course, benefits Brookshire’s.
The two Walgreens near my favorite pharmacy are not well staffed in the pharmacy section.
Put another way, they do have not nearly the staff at my Brookshire's pharmacy, which reduces wait time for prescription preparation as well as pickup.
My pharmacy buddies have advised me that their jobs are secure, and there will be no substantial changes in staffing.
I have heard that line before.
It’s no secret that acquiring companies must recover their acquisition costs. Usually, this means higher prices, less variety, staff reductions, less service.
No matter what the PR will be on the change from Brookshire’s to Walgreens at this location, I am confident that some of these measures will be instituted.
And to make matters worse, the nearby Walgreens is just a stone's throw away, which gives much concern on operation of two pharmacies in such a close proximity.
Geez, I feel like the Brookshire’s family has sold out on me and the many, many other Brookshire’s pharmacy customers. Especially the "family" of staff and customers at the Uptown Brookshire’s.
