NEW LOUISIANA ABSENTEE VOTER LAWS NOW IN EFFECT

The Louisiana Legislature enacted several new laws dealing with absentee voters that are now in effect. Here is a summary:

1. Only an immediate family member can witness more than one absentee ballot.

2. Only an immediate family member can return more than one absentee ballot.

3. Any person who brings in an absentee ballot to the Registrar of Voters must sign the ballot.

4. The Registrar of Voters will keep a log of persons bringing in absentee ballots.

5. Absentee ballots incorrectly completed will be challenged-- if the ballot is missing a voter signature, missing a witness signature, missing mother's middle name. These ballots will go to the Parish Board of Election Supervisors to determine if the ballot should be thrown out.

The Caddo Voter Registrar's office will reach out to voters with absentee ballots incorrectly completed in an attempt to rectify the deficiency up and until the Nov.4 deadline.

The Registrar's office is sending out over 13,000 absentee ballots to Caddo Parish residents. The deadline for their office to receive an absentee ballot is Nov.4 at 4:30 p.m.
