Support needed as Shreveport Police Officer nears date for kidney transplant!

We are writing to you to share some news about one of our own, Officer Samantha Gwin. Officer Gwin has been a member of our department since 2020, radiating positivity and dedication in every task she undertakes. It is with a heavy heart, yet hopeful spirit, that I inform you of her upcoming kidney transplant scheduled for May 2024. Between March of 2022 and July 2023, Officer Gwin began to experience unexplained medical issues involving both kidneys. The medical concerns escalated rapidly, and she was transferred to Houston Methodist Hospital for further guidance and evaluation.

Officer Gwin’s journey towards this transplant has been both challenging and inspiring. However, she faces it with unwavering courage and determination. This is the same determination and dedication that she serves the Shreveport Police Department with. She has also served her department as a member of the Peer Assistance Team. Through all her trials Officer Gwin has gained the strength to help officers in their hour of need.

She also volunteers with Louisiana State Police as a Peer for the Post Critical Incident Seminars. Very early in her career Officer Gwin found a way to give back and serve others.

She has a long road ahead of her however, we are grateful to share that a match has been found in her family member and cousin Destiny. This offers her a renewed sense of hope and opportunity for a healthier future.

As Officer Gwin prepares for this life-changing procedure at Houston Medical Hospital, she will require several months of observation and recovery in Houston. In this critical time, we, her Shreveport Police family, seek the support of our community to rally around Officer Gwin and let her know how deeply she is appreciated.

Your kindness, encouragement, and well wishes can make a world of difference as Officer Gwin embarks on this journey. Your support will not only uplift her spirits but also serve as a reminder of the strength and solidarity within our community.

We invite you to join us in offering Officer Gwin your thoughts, prayers, and any support you can provide during this challenging time. Together, let us demonstrate our unwavering support for one of our brave officers who has dedicated her life to serving and protecting our community.
