At today's Shreveport City Council meeting it is expected that funding will be approved for three non-profit organizations without ANY written knowledge as to:
1. What the funds will be used for
2. The need for these funds in consideration of other funding
3. The financial status, as in money in the bank, of these groups
4. Any follow up to ensure the funds are used for the purposes given.
Assuming this funding is approved, then the money floodgates will be opened.
I suggest the following groups line up and ask for money:
a. All the Mardi Gras Krewes
b. All the neighborhood groups
c. All the groups that have festivals at Festival Plaza or on any city property
d. All the other nonprofits headquartered in Shreveport.
WARNING TO NEW GROUPS ASKING FOR HANDOUTS:
1. YOU MAY BE DENIED BECAUSE YOU HAVE NOT ALWAYS BEEN GIVEN MONEY
2. IF YOU ARE NOT AN AFRICAN AMERICAN GROUP SERVING AFRICAN AMERICANS YOU MAY NOT MEET THE UNSPOKEN MOTIVATION FOR THE FUNDING OF THE ABOVE THREE.
One can only hope that the City Council will delay this vote, although this is not expected. No doubt, a complaint(s) will be filed in Baton Rouge and with the city auditors--both internal and external.
