CADDO COMMISSIONER JOHN PAUL YOUNG FILES DECLARATORY JUDGMENT SUIT ON RIGHTS OF SPD TO ARREST SQUATTERS

The "debate" aka "fuss" between Caddo Commissioner John Paul Young and Shreveport Mayor Tom Arceneaux has been ratched up another notch.

Both Young and Arceneaux have aired their versions of a Louisiana law dealing with squatters in vacant houses on 710 KEEL's Mike and McCarty radio show.

John Paul  says Shreveport police can arrest squatters in vacant houses without the posting of a no squatter sign by the house owner. Mayor Tom disagrees with him.

This follows John Paul's comments to the Shreveport City Council on Monday about who is to decide policy on arresting squatters--Mayor Tom or Shreveport Police Chief Wayne Smith.

Today, John Paul has filed  a declaratory judgment action  for a court ruling on the interpretation of the squatter law. This action requires Caddo district judge  Michael Pittman   to interpret this law.

John Paul is a law school graduate, and his dad Paul Young is a retired Caddo Juvenile judge. It is anticipated that John Paul will argue his case and that Shreveport City Attorney Marcus Edwards will represent the City.

No date has been set yet for the hearing.
