Yawn...just another day in Shrevesville and reading the morning news.
And surprise of all surprises (?), another fire in the Highland neighborhood. Yawn...
Can you believe it--the house had NO utility service . Fortunately, a man inside the fire in the 200 block of Robinson Place was able to get out safely.
Yawn.
One can only guess if this was a common occurrence in Mooretown or MLK, holy hell would be raised by council members James Green and Tabatha Taylor. These two would be waving the flag of racial discrimination, which is always their "go to" justification for things they do not like.
But hold on...a rescue is one the way, maybe.
No, don't expect the calvary to rush in and save the day. But Shreveport did send a cadre of high ranking government officials along with a renowned minister to Harvard last week for a blight resolution study. Surely they have come back with the magic bullet.
So far only crickets from this delegation. After they mail out all the postcards they brought home and complete their expense reimbursement forms, maybe they can piece together a white paper report or stage a dog and pony show at a press conference.
One of the spotlights on Shreveport city hall this week was three anti-Trump agenda resolutions that did NOT address fires in vacant structures. The other spotlight was on the Expo Hall lease and the "surprise" appearance of Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson at the Tues. council meeting.
The council did pass an ordinance that should assist SPD clear out vacant houses. Mayor Tom promised to sign it ASAP. So just maybe the calvary is on the way in a couple of weeks.
In the meantime, 50 Cent has promised to build his legacy in Shreveport. Hopefully, this means cleaning up and renovating the dilapidated properties he bought on Texas Street.
Seemingly, this could be readily accomplished while 50 makes plans to make Shreveport the next Hollywood of the South. And if one does not remember, this was the marketing slogan of Atlanta which former mayor Cedric Glover adopted for Shreveport.
Ok back to the news...yawn. Another week another Highland fire in an abandoned house.
But is that news?
